Engine mounts do not need much attention, but mounts that are broken or worn should be replaced as soon as possible so that components of the driveline do not suffer damage or wear. In order to ascertain the mounts, lift the engine a little so the load is not on the mounts. Place the vehicle on jackstands, place a jack under the engine oil pan with a block of wood in the middle, and raise the engine slowly taking care not to overstrain the mounts. Eliminate splash shield fitted below the engine, and examine mounts, cracks, hardened rubber, or loss of connection with plates of metal, etc. Test the mount plate movement to either the engine or frame with a large screwdriver or pry bar, when found to be in motion, drop the engine and snug up the mount fasteners. Coat mounts with rubber preservative in order to delay decay. To replace, maintain the engine, and take off the splash shield where fitted. In non-air conditioned models, the bracket should be unbolted at the radiator support, and any damaged rubber stoppers on the torque rod should be replaced and the torque rod unbolted at the front of the cylinder block, then reassembled in the reverse order. In models that have air conditioning, disconnect the aluminum stop of the torque rod bracket, push it over the rubber and pull it off; in case the torque rod bracket and side supports are not needed, disassemble them in that order, always removing the air conditioning drivebelt tensioner. Install the new rubber and bracket backwards. In the case of driver and passenger side engine mounts, park the brakes, clog the rear wheels, lift the front part of the car, and ensure it is firmly secured. Additional tasks may include removing the splash shield (assuming it is installed), and disconnecting the starter motor cables off the lower brackets of the engine mount, labeling the relationship of the dowels to install, and loosen the nuts of the left and right engine mounts. Floor jack supports the front stabilizer bar, loosens and removes the engine mount bracket bolts in reverse sequence and lowers the aluminum engine mount brackets with the stabilizer bar. Unbolt the mounting bracket on the cylinder block (may not be needed), take the engine mount off the engine block bracket, and reattach in that order.
